Anyhow, at first I didn't want to join in the contest, seeing as: a) I am very very busy these days b) I'll probably wind up making a fool of myself with my shoddy work c) I like Relativity and I have this silly idea that my participation in this contest would be a blasphemy to an awesome series ('cause I'm crazy like that)
But I ended up joining in anyway because I don't have anything to lose except my pride (which I don't have much of anyway).
I debated on whether I should submit into the digital art or literature category. Literature has been my preferred medium, but as of yet I'm having trouble coming up with a decent piece. I mean I have all my ideas, but writing them down has been, well, a challenge to say the least.
Anyway, on to this piece. I've decided to draw my OC Hugin and Babs Stone (owned by ). But anyway, Hugin is originally the protagonist in my story Flight, but here I've decided to make him a villain.
Why? Well, basically, my concept of good and evil isn't something concrete. Who's the good guy and who's the bad guy isn't clearly defined. There's always a thin line between being the good guy and being the bad guy. And you never know when you've crossed that line.
So anyway, the story is basically like this: while going off on another errand for his master, Hugin is somehow whisked away into the Relativity universe. This unfamiliar world frightens Hugin, as he's from a world that has never seen cars, computers or any other electronic and electrical device, for that matter.
To make things a lot worse, Hugin doesn't see Team Torrent as the superheroes that they are. In fact, he finds them threatening as the caped crusaders remind him of "Shadows", menacing creatures found in his own world.
As time goes by and he wanders the streets of Gale City, he begins to believe that everything in this world is an illusion, and that Team Torrent (whom he believes are Shadows) are the ones creating it. He resolves to destroy everything, which he calls "this fragile reality", in order to free himself from the supposed illusion.
And so in this mad delusion of his, he comes across Babs, who happens to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, and strangles her to death. So at this point he becomes a villain, but not by choice.
He doesn't feel any remorse or guilt about it, though, as he believes that she's not real. But here I'm wondering that if I do decide to make a literature submission for this contest, should I let him snap out of this delusion or should I let him continue his descent into madness? But either way, I'd wind up killing him in the end. Because I love him too much to let him live.
But anyway, I chose Babs because I think she's vulnerable enough, and she seems to be in quite a precarious situation sometimes. I hope Mirz doesn't mind me killing her.
As for the artwork (if I can call it that), I hope I did Babs some justice. I've been known to butcher just about everyone's OCs with my destructive hands. And I still fail at grass. And anatomy and a whole bunch of other things. But well.
Progress: Sketch - about 10 to 15 minutes Lineart - 1 hour Color - 1 hour (roughly, perhaps one and a half hours) Done in SAI with my trusty mouse. Except the sketching bit, that one was done with pencil and paper.
TL;DR So here's the important bits: Babs Stone belongs to Hugin belongs to me
Very interesting idea and story. And, no, I don't mind that you killed off a character. LOL! That's part of the fun, seeing how others work in our universe.
The backstory sounds interesting; I'd love to read a short lit piece and learn more.
Either way, I won't say more until the contest has ended. Thank you for participating.
Thank you! I might do a lit piece if I have the time. I had fun coming up with an idea for it - the theme provides quite a challenge for me as I didn't want to simply invent an OC just for the sake of this contest. So it was a matter of finding out how and where my character would fit in the universe. (Ironically enough, he fits by not fitting in, if that even makes sense, ha.)
